Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to get started?
You’ll need the tapes or DVDs and the Text PDF for the rank you’re testing for.
How do I test for rank?
You video yourself doing the requirements and send them to Soke McNeill, or post the test on Youtube. You can also travel to the Reno, Nevada area or find a Goju-Shorei instructor closer to you.
Will I need a partner to demonstrate the techniques when testing?
Yes.
How much does testing cost?
The test fee is $30 for the Yellow rank and goes up $10 per rank after that.
Is there any fee for re-testing?
No.
How many ranks or belt levels are there?
Both Karate and Weapons have the same number of ranks (7) below Black, and 8 degrees of Black.
How hard is it to learn Goju-Shorei Karate and/or Goju-Shorei Weapons?
The Weapons System was designed to be learned fairly quickly. Some have earned their Weapons Black Rank in a year. The Karate generally takes longer. In both cases it is really up to the dedication and desire of the student.
